The Early Years Curriculum at Newtown Nursery School

"Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential. A child's experience in the early years has a major impact on their life chances"

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS 2017) the statutory framework that sets the standards for Learning, Development and Care for children from birth up to 5.

Children will experience a wide range of learning opportunities in our school that are developmentally appropriate. Thes are all based around play and exploring, being active and through creative and critical thinking.

Our practice is shaped by four guiding principles:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • An understanding that children learn and develop at different rates, in different ways.

These three prime areas are:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development

Alongside these areas there are four specific areas through which the prime areas are strengthened and applied, these are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design
