TEACHING AND LEARNING
We are a Local Authority Maintained Nursery School and our teaching and learning will be developed in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The Early Years Foundation Stage quotes that: “Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support, to fulfil their potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their life chances”
All of the classroom staff are qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant or Teachers.
They will be using their knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage, its principles and commitments, to underpin their effective practice in the care, development and learning of your young child.
They will be offering your child a high quality education with all kinds of interesting and fun activities and these will be monitored and assessed under the following 7 areas of Learning and Development:
Communication & Language
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Understanding The World
Expressive Arts & Design
Our last Ofsted Inspection was in January 2013 and the school was judged
to be Grade 1 outstanding in all areas.
Regular meetings are held by staff, to assess and plan each child’s development.
Your child has great potential and we want to work with you to help them to achieve it.
Children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)—TEACHING AND LEARNING
Some children may need extra help with their speech, listening and hearing, physical mobility and co-ordination or in other ways. We have a very good teaching programme to help children with additional needs and this was highly praised in our Ofsted Report.
RECORDS OF ACHIEVEMENT
Photos and videos are taken and written records are kept of the children’s achievements.
You will have the opportunity to meet with your child's keyworker once every term. This is an opportunity for you to find out how your child is progressing and to find out what nursery has identified as your child's next step. You will receive a written report and will have the opportunity to ask questions and and share any concerns that you might have.
You will have the chance to write your own comments on the report. The report that is written in the summer term is sent to your child’s new school in September along with the results of your children’s progress through the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage).
We use Target Tracker as well as observations and conversations with your child to assess their progress.
Throughout the year, your child and teacher will put together a Learning Journal, this contains photos, work and comments. Your child will bring this home at the end of the year to keep and we do suggest that you show it to your child’s reception teacher.
